Foot Orthotic Therapy
Foot Orthoses (also known as orthotic devices) are specially designed shoe inserts that help support the feet, improve foot posture, provide even weight distribution, and correct any imbalances. Orthotics can also be beneficial for those who experience pain or symptoms due to sport activities. All of our custom orthotic devices are manufactured in-house to ensure the entire process from prescription, design, and output correctly match your foot and condition.

Using a 3D scan of your feet along with computer processing, we design the perfect orthotic device for your feet, before sending it off to our milling machine. The output is an EVA-base custom-milled orthotic device that can be used to correct foot deformities and provide relief from chronic foot pain.
The custom moulded orthotic process involves a combination of heat-mouldable materials vacuum-formed onto a positive mould of the foot. The orthoses can be accommodative or corrective, and can be used to offload peak plantar pressure points or to manipulate and correct foot function.
An accommodative orthoses produced using a combination of diabetic-friendly materials to redistribute plantar pressure and offload areas at risk of developing pressure wounds and ulceration. Can also feature fillers and prosthetic components to accommodate toe or partial foot amputations.
A sensorimotor orthotic is a type of orthotic device designed to improve and modify the function of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems by altering sensory feedback from the feet. These orthotics are based on the principle that the way the feet interact with the ground can influence not just local foot biomechanics but also the overall posture, gait, and neuromuscular function of the body. By providing specific sensory inputs to the soles of the feet, sensorimotor orthotics aim to stimulate or adjust the sensorimotor system, leading to improved balance, posture, and movement patterns.
A rigid orthotic with a deep shell like shape, suitable for those with severe foot support requirements. The UCBL is often used for those with flexible flat feet, as it utilises three corrective components; holding the heel in a neutral position, and controlling both the medial arch and outside border of the forefoot.
Ankle-Foot Orthotic Therapy
Ankle Foot Orthotics (AFOs) are custom-fitted or prefabricated orthotic devices designed to support the ankle and foot. They are commonly used to provide stabilisation, correct foot drop, and manage muscle weakness, deformities, or alignment issues that affect the foot and ankle. AFOs extend from the lower leg down to the foot, helping to control position and motion, improve gait, and reduce the risk of falls by providing the necessary support to the lower limb.
As part of your custom-made footwear or foot orthotic treatment plan, our pedorthist may recommended an AFO to further support or address your foot or gait condition.
Feet in Focus offer a limited range of ankle-foot orthotics (AFO) to treat various conditions such as drop foot and severe ankle varus or valgus:

We offer custom-made, integrated AFOs built within the leather upper of your custom footwear, concealing the device from plain sight. An ankle unilateral AFO can be integrated to provide medial or lateral ankle support to address ankle varus or valgus deformities. An ankle enclosing AFO can be used to provide complete hindfoot stability and support as well as address foot drop.
